How to move a mattress with a car
Moving a mattress with your car can be easier said than done It’s not easy to move a mattress with your car. It makes the vehicle heavier, can inhibit visibility, and can present certain dangers. These problems are often exacerbated if you have a small vehicle and an enormous mattress (just try cramming a king size mattress into a Suzuki Swift, and see where that gets you). In this article, we’ll show you a few of the hazards you’re likely to encounter when moving a mattress with a car. We will also give you some pointers to make the process of mattress transportation that much easier. At Sleep Republic, we don’t just provide great mattresses at an affordable price; we also offer free delivery on our product Australia wide. Find out more about how we can make mattress delivery straightforward. What can you do if your mattress is too large for your car? There are a few options for moving a mattress by car, but they can be troublesome if not executed correctly. For example, attaching a mattress to the roof of your car can be illegal if it is not performed in a safe and specific way. If you can almost, but not quite, fit the packaged mattress into your boot, then you could try removing the protective packaging and see if just the mattress will fit. However, this presents hazards: if you have any dirty or sharp objects in your vehicle then your mattress is at added risk of damage during your journey. Then, when it comes time to remove the mattress from your car, you’ll either have to reapply the protective packaging (which can be arduous) or risk dirt and debris while transporting your mattress from your vehicle to your bed base. Don’t let the mattress damage things in your car If a big and heavy mattress is loose in your car while driving, be alert that it might break any fragile items it makes contact with. Be especially careful if your mattress is sharing the back seat area in your vehicle with a child’s car seat: the seat can become loose, and may need to be re-fitted to offer adequate protection. Your car will be heavier when you’re driving with a heavy mattress A car that is weighed down by a mattress will accelerate less quickly and break less effectively than it usually does. It might only by a small change, but even a difference of a few seconds and meters can have a huge impact when you’re on the road. To avoid an accident, remember to take into account the new conditions of your vehicle. Watch out for visibility when moving a mattress in a car Just because you can fit a mattress into your car doesn’t necessarily mean you can do it safely. It’s vital that you maintain visibility out your back window while driving. If you can’t see out your rearview mirror, it’ll seriously impact your ability to drive safely. Ensure that the mattress is stored in such a way as not to block your rearview mirror. If that’s impossible, then look at another way of moving the mattress. Moving a mattress by towing a trailer with your car Driving with a trailer can be really hard: if you’ve ever seen an inexperienced person try to back up a trailer, you’ll know just how challenging it can be! Furthermore, not every driver is allowed to tow a trailer. In some states, like Victoria, there are restrictions which prevent P-platers from towing. Make sure that what you’re doing with the trailer is legal, and that you know what you’re doing. There is a better and easier way to get your new mattress home As outlined above, moving a mattress with your car can be fraught with difficulty. Thankfully, there is a simple and hassle-free alternative: just get your mattress delivered. Some mattress companies charge big premiums for delivery on their product, but not us. At Sleep Republic, we offer free delivery Australia wide. Whether you’re getting a small single or an enormous bed, we won’t charge you an additional cent to bring it to your property. You could face danger and wrestle a mattress into your car, but our team at Sleep Republic can help with a better solution. Find out more about the free delivery we offer Australia wide.

Find the perfect match for a great night’s sleep Sleeping on a quality latex mattress which supports your back makes a world of difference. Too often, people suffer from poor sleep, backaches, and discomfort due to a mattress that isn’t right for them. But choosing the right mattress for you can be difficult. In this article, we’ll cover the absolute basics you should look for in a new latex mattress and some additional bonuses which help people with particular sleep-types. Read on to find out more, and get one step closer to a dreamy night’s of sleep. At Sleep Republic, we’ve created a hybrid mattress with comfort layers of latex and gel-infused memory foam with up to 2250 high definition pocket springs. It’s a winning combination (we have the BedBuyer award to prove it), and our customers experience luxurious sleep, free from aches and pains. Size is everything Choosing the right size latex mattress is crucial for a good night’s sleep. You’ll need to work to the size of the room the mattress will live in, but in general, you should choose a size with 10cm extra in height. Most Australian mattresses come in these sizes: Single: 92 x 188 cm Long single: 92 x 203 cm King single: 107 x 203 cm Double: 137 x 188 cm Queen: 152 x 203 cm King: 183 x 203 cm Choose a latex mattress with the right comfort layers You need to look below the surface to find a high quality latex mattress. Sometimes, manufacturers create products which look great on the outside, but are filled with materials which have been treated with chemicals. Make sure you purchase a mattress which has been made with natural latex. Natural latex is harvested from rubber trees, and has a lower environmental footprint than many other foam products. It’s rarely treated with any other chemicals, so it’s a great solution for buyers who have chemical sensitivity or allergies. Other comfort layers to look for include: Pocket sprint support: Nothing beats a pocket spring system as a strong and supportive base. At Sleep Republic, we’ve worked out how to fit the maximum amount of high definition pocket springs into one mattress to provide targeted support. Gel-infused memory foam: Where normal memory foam can overheat sleepers, gel-infused memory foam provides contour and support while keeping you cool. 3D spacer fabric: A product which knits different fibres together, this comfort layer makes sure your mattress stays ventilated — so your latex mattress will last you for years and years. Edge support: Have you ever experienced that sagging effect when you lean out of bed? With high tensile steel spring edging, you will feel supported on any part of your mattress. Which type of firmness should you choose? Depending on how you sleep at night, and whether you have particular concerns about your back, you should always choose a medium-to-firm mattress. Soft mattresses are great, they feel so comfortable to sleep on — but they can really damage your back in the long run. The only problem is, mattresses vary widely in firmness. Should you choose a very solid mattress or one with a little bit of give? To find the best mattress firmness for you, you should choose one that matches your sleeping style. If you sleep on your: Front: You need a firmer mattress to support your whole body and keep your spine aligned. Back: You need a medium-to-firm mattress paired with a smaller pillow so you can keep your neck aligned with your back. Side: You’ll need a firm mattress base, paired with a mattress topper (or comfort layer) which is soft, so your hips are cushioned as you sleep. Choose the right mattress for your budget You don’t need to spend a fortune to get the perfect mattress for you. Not too long ago, people would opt for a spring-loaded mattress from a department store, but now you can access mattresses in a box. And because companies are saving on storefront costs, these mattresses are often more affordable — yet of the same, if not higher, quality. At Sleep Republic, we also have flexible finance options. You can choose to split your mattress order into interest free payments. We have: Afterpay: Split your order into four fortnightly payments Zip: Access up to $2,000, interest free. SplitIt: Use your existing credit card to pay over time. Choose a mattress from a company which delivers If you’ve chosen the perfect latex mattress for you, with pocket spring support and comfort layers, your mattress is going to be on the heavy side. That’s why it’s always a good idea to choose a company which can deliver your mattress to your home. Some companies may charge an arm and a leg for their delivery services, so make sure you check the fine print before you place an order. If you’re interested in free delivery, check out our delivery page at Sleep Republic. We believe every Australian deserves the perfect mattress, no matter where they are. We’ve spent years perfecting our hybrid mattress, and we’re happy to say our product has helped sleepers all over Australia get the best night’s sleep. Read moreHow to carry a heavy mattress upstairs
Carry your mattress and navigate flights of stairs with ease with this guide A quality mattress is designed to make your life as relaxing as possible. However, the prospect of carrying a heavy mattress upstairs can invoke the opposite feelings — like dread and despair. When a mattress company will deliver to your front yard, but not carry your heavy mattress upstairs, what are you to do? It’s not as though you can just sleep outside your apartment building! The good news is that carrying a heavy mattress upstairs isn’t actually that difficult. With the right lifting techniques, a mattress can be carried upstairs without injury and without the mattress getting dirty. There are even great techniques for getting the mattress around tight corners in a stairwell. Read on to find out more about the process. At Sleep Republic, we don’t just have the best hybrid pocket spring mattress on the market: we also offer free delivery all across Australia. Find out more about inclusions in our delivery service. Why won’t my mattress deliverers carry my mattress upstairs? Many mattress delivery workers aren’t allowed to carry your mattress upstairs. This is not because carrying a mattress upstairs is especially dangerous or difficult. Often, it is because carrying a mattress upstairs can take a substantial amount of time, and delivery teams have lots of drops to make each day. What is the easiest kind of mattress to carry up a flight of stairs? By far, the easiest mattresses to carry upstairs are those that come in a box. A mattress in a box is smaller, more stable and rigid, and comes with its own protective packaging. When you’re ordering a mattress, and know that you’re going to have to carry it upstairs, start by checking that it comes in a box. Is it safer to have two people carrying the mattress upstairs? To make carrying a mattress safer, two people should work together on the job. Having a second person carry the mattress with you makes the task far easier: When you’re working together, each person only has to carry half the weight. With one of you at each end of the mattress, you’ll be able to spot each other and will have better visibility of any hazards (things on the steps, people coming out of doors and into the stairs). Two people working together can usually hold a mattress in a more comfortable and ergonomic way. Whether you’re lifting alone or with a partner, always check the weight of any items that you’re carrying. Don’t carry anything that’s outside of your comfort zone. How do you get started carrying a heavy mattress upstairs? The first thing to do is to clear the path as much as possible. Stairwells can be crowded places, with tripping hazards like doormats, shoes, dog toys, and many other little things. Before you start carrying the mattress upstairs, remove the debris. Additionally, it is a good idea to clear a path within your house before you start moving, and ensure that there’s room for you to unroll your mattress. If your mattress is arriving in a box or thick packaging, save yourself time by finding the tools you’ll need to open the packaging ahead of time. Also, if you’re planning on having a bed base, set it up ahead of time so that the mattress can be plopped right on top. How do you keep a mattress clean while carrying it upstairs? Stairwells can be dirty and dusty places, especially if you share them with several other tenants in an apartment complex. Depending on the state of your stairwell, and the type of mattress you’ve ordered, keeping your mattress clean while moving it upstairs can be easier said than done. Aside from cleaning up the entire stairwell (which would be a herculean task) the best way to keep the mattress clean while carrying it upstairs is to keep it in its box or packaging. This adds another step to the moving process, as you’ll have to take all the packaging back downstairs at some point, but it’s worth it to have a beautiful, clean mattress. If the mattress doesn’t come in a box or ample packaging, try wrapping a sheet or several sheets around the mattress before you embark on your journey up the stairs. What are the proper lifting techniques for carrying a mattress upstairs? Carrying a mattress upstairs requires a similar technique to the lifting of other heavy objects. Make sure you obey the following safety advice: Don’t bend your torso while lifting, as this is a recipe for back pain. Don’t twist or turn: maintain a straight and erect posture. Carry the mattress at a comfortable and low level (not lifting it above your shoulders). Take care not to overexert yourself — work with a partner if possible, and stop for a break whenever you want one. How do you get around corners when carrying a mattress upstairs? Some mattresses can be bent and folded, making it easy to carry them around stairs. Other mattresses, which cannot be folded, require a little creativity during the moving process! Try raising the mattress up into a vertical position, making it thinner, to facilitate easier travel around tight corners. If you’re working with a mattress in a box, this will be even easier. Find out why we’ve been recognised as one of Australia’s best mattresses Bedbuyer is one of Australia’s leading mattress and bed review companies. They understand that buying a mattress is an investment, and with so many products in the market, buyers often find it hard to work out which mattress will be the best fit for their unique needs. This is why, every year, their expert team tests and reviews over 1500 mattresses, and more than 100 mattress in a box products. And this year, Sleep Republic has won the prestigious title of Australia’s ‘Best Overall’ mattress for the mattress in a box category. That’s two years running! We were compared against other high quality mattresses, so needless to say, the Sleep Republic team is thrilled to have been recognised for our worth. At Sleep Republic, we’ve spent decades formulating and testing our products to create the best mattress possible. We’re passionate about the science behind what makes a mattress the best it can be, and we believe we’ve created the perfect solution. Check out our mattress, and accessories, today. Why we were chosen for the ‘Best Overall’ mattress in a box According to Bedbuyer, the combination of materials within our mattress is what makes it stand out. Our mattress comprises: Natural latex Premium memory foam A high definition pocket spring system Dynamic edge support We believe a mattress needs a pocket spring system as it’s foundation. At first, it was hard to find a way to combine pocket springs while also fitting the mattress in a box. But thanks to our expert team, new technology, and constant research and development, we’ve solved the problem. Not only do we include pocket springs, but we include the absolute maximum so those who buy our products can enjoy the utmost support at night. What the Bedbuyer team had to say The Bedbuyer team tested and reviewed our mattress, and the key takeouts they loved were that: There is minimal partner disturbance It’s competitively priced It comes with a 12 year warranty There’s a 150 night free trial period They also said: “Our review team loved the overall feel of the Sleep Republic Mattress. The Cashmere knitted fabric on top feels silky and luxurious, and it has a nice, authentic amount of ‘spring’ to it. Spinal support is exceptional, and is as good as any mattress in a box we have tested. It maintains the spine, pelvis, and shoulders superbly in all sleeping positions, with no sinking or dipping. The top layer also provides a divine level of comfort.” See the full review here. Why are springs so important? Pocket springs are the most supportive system to ensure a restful and pain-free night of sleep. Because the springs are placed in individual pockets, they don’t move as a unit — unlike open coil mattresses. We’ve formulated our pocket spring system to target five specific body zones, so our mattress is versatile for those experiencing pain in different areas of the body. What about the other layers? While we firmly believe pocket springs are essential, we also know that materials like memory foam and natural latex are important for comfort and ventilation. Our gel-infused memory foam has been developed by NASA for pressure relief and body contouring. The gel component provides temperature stability — no more overheating during the night! The natural latex layer provides breathability and promotes airflow, as it contains thousands of ventilation holes. This means your mattress will last you for many years to come. Ever had that fear of falling off your mattress during the night? Our dynamic edge support is made of firmer high tensile steel springs, so sleepers needn’t worry about roll-off. Customer reviews Support and comfort This is our second Sleep Republic mattress. We loved our first one, and now have another for our guest bed. Discover the best way to pick a new mattress The right mattress can make all the difference between a good night’s sleep and a bad one. It can also affect how your back feels when you wake up. But finding the right mattress for your sleeping style can be difficult. That’s why we’ve written this guide on how to find the perfect mattress for a restful night of sleep. At Sleep Republic, we understand one mattress doesn’t suit all sleepers. So we offer a 150 night guarantee. If you don’t like your mattress within 150 nights of purchase, you can return it and get a refund. No questions asked. The best way to test a mattress is to sleep on it Hands down, the best way to test a mattress is to sleep on it. But it takes more than one night to evaluate whether a mattress is the right fit for you. It takes a minimum of 14 days to adjust to new bedding. What makes a mattress good? No one person is the same when it comes to sleeping styles. While one person might like a firm mattress, another person likes a soft mattress. Here are some ways to discover which type of mattress is right for you. Firmness Everyone has different preferences when it comes to how firm they like their mattresses. But, for the best support and comfort, medium-firm mattresses are the best. What makes a mattress medium-firm? Things like pocket springs and memory foam can help make a mattress the perfect level of firmness for optimal support. But it can be hard to find a mattress which combines both. At Sleep Republic, we’ve spent years refining our mattress, so we can match pocket spring support systems with comfort layers like gel infused memory foam created by NASA. Test out different mattress sizes One size does not fit all when it comes to mattresses. To find the right size for you, check out our mattress size guides. Generally, the length of your mattress should be at least 10-15 centimetres longer than your body. But also take into consideration whether you’d like more space to sleep comfortably, or whether you’ll have a furry friend who will cohabit your bed with you. Read company reviews Checking out Google and Facebook reviews is one of the best ways to gauge if a mattress is worth buying. According to Bright Local, 90 per cent of consumers used the internet to find a local business, and the average consumer reads 10 reviews before feeling able to trust a business. Lucky for us, we’ve got hundreds of positive reviews from our clients who have bought our mattresses. You can see them all for yourself here our reviews or check out some of our favourites below: “Process from order, delivery, through to assembled bed ready for use, was quick & easy. Find out why latex mattresses are supremely durable When you’re shopping for a mattress, there’s plenty of features you should look for. Support and comfort reign supreme, but one thing is often overlooked — ventilation. If you have a mattress with good ventilation and breathability, you won’t need to replace it any time soon. But why is this so important? Let’s take a look. At Sleep Republic, we’ve perfected our mattresses. We’ve combined maximum high definition pocket springs with comfort, including a natural latex layer which also helps regulate your body temperature. How long does a latex mattress last? The lifespan of a mattress depends on a few factors. It needs a supportive bed base, and the user needs to take proper care of it to ensure it remains comfortable and support for the years to come. Other factors which can influence the longevity of the bed include: The user’s weight and size The number of springs in the mattress The quality of latex If you have a mattress made with premium latex, and you ensure you follow the care instructions, you can use it for up to 20 years without compromising comfort or support. Why is latex a good material for a mattress? Latex is not just breathable and durable — it’s also comfortable. Mattresses made with latex comfort layers suit all kinds of sleepers, including: Side sleepers: It will conform to your figure like memory foam. Couples: It reduces motion transfer so if your partner tosses and turns, you won’t be disturbed. Back sleepers: It’s firm enough to support those who like to lie on their back at night. It provides pain and pressure relief for anyone suffering from back or shoulder pain, especially when paired with other supportive layers like high definition pocket springs. How often do I need to replace a latex mattress? Your latex mattress (or hybrid mattress) should last you up to 20 years or more. The lifespan of your mattress will increase or decrease, based on which other materials are included in your mattress. For instance, if you choose a mattress with a pocket spring foundation and memory foam, your mattress will last even longer. How to tell when you need to replace your mattress You’re waking up in pain: Your mattress is subject to natural wear and tear, depending on how often it is used. If you start to experience back pain (where you’d never had back pain before), it could be a sign your mattress is no longer as supportive as it once was. You notice lumps and bumps in your mattress: If you find dips or lumps in your mattress, it means it’s elasticity and support has deteriorated over time. It’s making you wheeze: Some people, especially those with allergies, may experience wheeziness when they sleep on an old mattress which needs replacing. This is because dust builds up in mattresses, alongside dead skin cells and potential bacteria. How do I take care of a natural latex mattress? To get the most out of your mattress, you should always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. Usually, these will include directions to: Rotate your mattress top to bottom every six months: This ensures body pressure is spread evenly throughout the mattress. Use a mattress cover: This acts as another layer of protection, so no spills will reach the mattress itself. Avoid uncovered exposure to the sun: When you wash the sheets and mattress cover, you should lay a blanket over your mattress. Natural latex can break down when exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time. Let your mattress breathe: Sure, it’s already well-ventilated, but for maximum longevity, you need to use a slatted bed base so air can circulate. Why choose Sleep Republic At Sleep Republic, we’ve conducted extensive research to work out how to create the perfect hybrid mattress. By combining a foundation of high definition pocket springs (up to 2250 in one king size mattress) with comfort layers, our product is the best on the market. When you sleep on a Sleep Republic mattress, you’ll be sleeping on materials such as: Cashmere knitted fabric for supreme comfort Gel-infused memory foam which contours to the body, providing pressure relief Natural latex to regulate airflow and body temperature 3D space fabric which knits different fibres together to further enhance airflow Dynamic edge support to prevent sleepers from falling off the bed Our award winning mattress routinely gets rave reviews. Check out what our customers are saying and view our mattress for yourself to find out why people love us so much.
Read moreAre latex foam mattresses safe?
It’s time to dispel the myths around latex foam As it falls under the ‘foam’ category, latex has been given a bad reputation in the mattress world. Some people think it’s unsafe, but the opposite is true. It’s actually a durable and natural material, sourced from the sap of rubber trees. It’s also one of the most environmentally friendly products used in mattresses, and it provides comfort levels similar to memory foam. Find out just how safe they really are, and uncover where the silly myth started. At Sleep Republic, we sell comfortable, safe, natural latex hybrid mattresses. Check out our range of durable latex mattresses in our online store. What is latex? Latex is a white liquid sap produced by rubber trees. The liquid is tapped from the tree trunk and cleaned, before being spun into latex foam. It’s then covered, and baked into the foam you see in mattresses. Is latex safe in mattresses? High quality natural latex is safe. However, cheap latex is sometimes infused with toxic chemicals (like formaldehyde) to enhance its elasticity and ventilation. That’s why we only trust 100% natural latex Dunlop foam. We’ve even attended the processing facilities to ensure every step, from to start to finish, is conducted to the highest standards. What are the benefits of latex foam? Latex mattresses and hybrid varieties offer support and pressure relief for every kind of sleeper. It’s breathable, and lasts much longer than similar products, like memory foam. While memory foam retains body heat, it loses its ability to bounce back. After years of sleeping on a memory foam mattress, it will eventually form dips and sags. You won’t experience this with a latex mattress. In summary, a latex foam bed has the following benefits: Comfort Longevity Motion isolation No toxic chemicals Hypoallergenic Environmentally friendly Natural latex is also naturally fire resistant, so suppliers don’t need to add flame retardant chemicals during the manufacturing process. What does off gassing mean and is it dangerous? ‘Off gassing’ refers to the emission of noxious gases. If you’ve ever been inside a brand new car, that’s what it smells like. It happens when Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) break down. VOCs have a negative impact on the environment, and contribute to greenhouse gas pollution. Manufacturers often add chemicals to ensure their products are fire resistant, and often the glues used in mattresses contain additional toxins. Some of the VOCs used in mattresses include: Chlorofluorocarbons Formaldehyde Benzene Methylene chloride Toluene Trichloroethane Naphthalene Perfluorocarbons While the chemical levels found in an everyday mattress are not harmful in the long-term, they can cause some people to experience short-term symptoms of: Eye, nose, and throat irritation Headaches Nausea Asthma Itchy skin When you buy a natural latex mattress or hybrid mattress, you don’t need to worry about off gassing. Which is better, synthetic or all-natural latex? Synthetic latex is a synthetically produced compound which mimics the properties of natural latex. It’s produced from petrochemicals which fall under the VOC umbrella. Compared to natural latex, it’s: Less durable Emits a strong smell due to off gassing Loses elasticity more easily However, synthetic latex mattresses are often cheaper than their natural latex counterparts. But when you factor in how long they last, it’s apparent that in the long run, natural latex mattresses are more cost effective. Why choose Sleep Republic At Sleep Republic, we’ve spent years perfecting our hybrid mattress. We’ve experimented with different comfort layers, and worked out how to squeeze up to 2250 high density pocket springs in one bed, while still fitting it in a box. Our customers routinely give us great feedback, saying things like: “Having tried inner spring, pocket spring and all foam, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a hybrid. But I was highly impressed at the amount of softness yet supportiveness there was.” – Jesse P. “We love our king mattress! It looks and feels nothing like a mattress in a box, it’s got a full pillow top layer, a woven plush top and is so supportive. My partner and I prefer very different feels in a mattress, and this is the first one we’ve both agreed on.” – Michelle “I highly recommend this mattress. It is the ultimate mix of firm support, combined with a lovely soft top that gives perfectly at all the pressure points.” – Natasha S. What makes our mattress so good? We’ve combined the best materials with a solid foundation to give you support and comfort at night. Our comfort layers include: Cashmere knitted fabric Gel-infused memory foam Natural latex High definition pocket springs Dynamic edge support 3D spacer fabric If you’re looking for a mattress which will last you the next 10-20 years, check out our award winning mattress. A little extra room goes a long way towards comfort Choosing between a single mattress and a long single mattress is a key decision for many people. Families especially are often looking for more room to cater for their growing children and teenagers. The third option, the king single, offers even more length than a long single, while still remaining relatively compact in size. The difference between a single mattress and long single mattress is simple — length. The long single is about 15 centimetres longer than the normal single. The king single retains this length, and adds a comfortable 15 centimetres in extra width. These three sizes have their own benefits, which we have detailed below. Sleep Republic is in the business of making a great mattress, no matter the size. Whether you’re looking for a single mattress, long single mattress, or king single mattress, we have you covered with our BedBuyer award-winning sleeping solutions. Single mattresses The single mattress is a staple of family homes around the country. Perfect for children, and smaller sleeping situations, it is the ideal sleeping solution for: Young children sharing rooms Families looking to maximise floor space Single sleepers in compact spaces People looking for budget solutions Sleep Republic’s single mattress is 188 centimetres long and 92 centimetres wide, allowing plenty of room for sleeping, reading, and other activities. We also managed to sneak in 1081 individual pocket springs into this area, giving the sleeper ultimate comfort and support from edge to edge. Long single mattresses The long single mattress looks exactly how it sounds — a longer version of the compact single mattress. Sleepers that will get the most of this extra length include: Growing children and teenagers Single sleepers in small rooms The elderly sleeping alone Our long single mattress measures 203 centimetres long and 92 centimetres wide, offering a grand 15 centimetres in length difference over the standard single. We’ve also managed to fit 1100 individual pocket springs across this space, making sure that your sleeper receives the support they need. King single mattresses The king single mattress is the best option for those wishing to provide comfortable sleeping options, with more width to stretch out. Sleepers that will benefit from this extra space include: Older people sleeping alone Young adults moving out for the first time Singles and college students in dorms Sleep Republic’s king single mattress measure a generous 203 centimetres long, by 107 centimetres wide, slightly wider than the long single. Throughout this mattress, you’ll find exactly 1250 individual pocket springs, meaning that the space you gain is equally supported. This is particularly beneficial for the elderly, who require additional support around the joints. How to come to a decision Choosing between a single, long single, and kind single isn’t easy. There are so many factors to be aware of. Here are some of the main questions to ask yourself before you purchase: How much space do I have? Smaller rooms in many living situations can only afford a single. How long do I intend the mattress to be used for? We recommend changing mattresses every 5 to 10 years. Will the mattress support my sleeper throughout that time? If they are growing, they might need a bigger option. If you’re unsure about the specifications or suitability of your desired sleeping solutions, get in touch with Sleep Republic. Natural, breathable, comfortable: Find out about the benefits of latex mattresses Latex is a natural substance that is derived from the sap of a rubber tree. Developed at the start of the 20th century, latex quickly became popular. The suitability of latex for mattresses and pillows was discovered almost immediately. Today, latex mattresses are among the most popular in the world. They’re affordable, they feel great, and that’s not all. Because latex is a breathable fabric, they also have superior air circulation. When combined with foam and pocket springs, a latex mattress is a perfect surface for sleeping on. Read on to find out more about the many benefits of latex mattresses. At Sleep Republic, we offer a 150 Night Trial on our mattresses. If you’re not entirely satisfied, you can return it for free and get a full refund. Plus, we do free delivery. Try our award winning hybrid and latex mattress, and see for yourself what all the fuss is about. What are the benefits of a latex mattress? There are many qualities that make latex perfect for mattresses. Here are just a few of our favourites: Durability As a form of rubber, latex is a durable and resilient material. Unlike other substances that wilt and warp, latex will hold its shape year after year. Dust mite resistant Dust mites can cause a terrible reaction in people with allergies. Thankfully, latex has good resistance to dust mites. A latex mattress will stay clean and fresh for longer. Good for the environment Latex is a very eco-friendly material. It’s natural, coming from rubber trees that remove carbon dioxide and generate oxygen. Soft and comfortable We use latex as the top level on our mattresses because it’s soft and facilitates a glorious night’s sleep. Fantastic air circulation Natural latex is a breathable fabric and allows for great air circulation. That helps to prevent sweaty sleeping, especially in the hot Australian summers. Is a latex mattress good for back pain? Because latex is derived from rubber sap, it has a degree of elasticity which can be great for supporting your body. By cushioning and cradling your body in just the right places, latex can be great for treating back pain and other muscular ailments. If you’re experiencing aches and pains on your present mattress, consider making the move to a mattress with a latex topper. It could make all the difference. Is a latex mattress worth it? We believe that a latex mattress is a good investment, but we’ll let you be the judge of that. We offer free delivery and a 150 Night Trial on our latex hybrid mattresses. If you don’t love it, return it for a full refund. Which mattress is better: latex, memory foam, or pocket springs? When you’re shopping for a mattress, it can be difficult to sift through all the competing claims. For example, latex mattresses are said to be soft to the touch and have the best air circulation. Then, memory foam mattresses boast top levels of comfort and affordability. Pocket spring mattresses, on the other hand, offer an unparalleled level of support. It’s an impossible decision; how are you supposed to choose just one? At Sleep Republic, we’ve done the hard work so that you don’t have to make an impossible decision. Our hybrid mattresses take the best of both worlds — all the comfort of a memory foam mattress, plus the support people love in a pocket spring mattress. Then, we round that out with a latex mattress topper. All these factors combine to make the perfect mattress. We believe it is the best latex mattress on the market. With free delivery and a 150 Night Trial, you’ve got nothing to lose by trying our award winning mattress. Our latex mattresses also have the comfort of foam and the support of pocket springs. They come in a range of different sizes, so you can find the mattress that’s right for you.

A Step by Step Guide It’s a unique and interesting time for retail shopping at the moment. We’re only meant to be leaving our houses for ‘essential travel’, and even then a lot of retail stores have been forced to shut their doors. So how do we buy things that we may have normally gone into a shop for? This is where businesses like Sleep Republic come in, we’re an online only mattress and bedding store, so you can purchase everything you need for a good night’s sleep, without ever having to leave your home. That being said, there are plenty of us who have never had to buy anything online, let alone something as large as a mattress. So we’ve created a quick step by step guide from first click to final purchase, to help you navigate finding the best and easiest way to buy a mattress online. Step 1. Do your research This might be the most important step. What do you require for a good night’s sleep? Do you prefer a supportive pocket spring mattress? If so, what type of feel? Soft? Medium? Firm? Make a list of all the ‘must haves’ you require in a mattress and use that as your starting point. Head to Google and type in some of the features to find a list of brands to choose from. Step 2. Check reviews Once you’ve found a mattress brand that you like, check some independent review sites. We recommend Product Review as a customer review site, and Bedbuyer as a mattress specific review site. Both of the websites are independent and unbiased. On Product Review you can read verified customer reviews to hear how other people are enjoying their mattresses. Bedbuyer is run by a team of chiropractors and health professionals who review thousands of mattresses every year to find the best in both support and comfort. Step 3. Go to the company’s website So you’ve found a mattress you like, the reviews sound great, now what? From here you will head to the company’s website to begin your purchase. Step 4. Add to cart and checkout Once you’re on the company’s website, go to the mattress page, choose your desired size and add to cart. You’re almost there! From here you’ll be directed to your cart. Either you can add additional products to complete your sleep (sheets, base, pillow, etc) or you can check out. Step 5. Check Out On the check out page, you’ll fill in your name and contact details in their respective fields, then you’ll arrive at the payment portion of your order. Step 6. Choose your payment type At Sleep Republic, we have a number of different ways you can pay for your mattress. If you have the means to pay for your mattress now, you can choose to pay by Credit Card or Paypal. If you would like to sleep now and pay later, we have three different interest free payment plan options- ZipPay, Splitit or Afterpay. If you do choose an interest free payment option, instead of going straight to purchase, you will be taken to the payment company’s website. There you will fill in some details and they will make an approval decision there on the spot. Step 7. Purchase If you have chosen the Credit Card or Paypal option, you will click place order and that’s it! You’ve ordered your mattress! Easy, right? You will then receive a confirmation email from us, we book your order in with our transport partners, and they will contact you and provide you with a shipping date. The best part is that when your mattress arrives, you have 150 nights to decide whether the mattress is right for you. If not, no worries, let us know and we’ll come collect the mattress, donate it to charity, and provide you with a full refund. We’ve made it so there is no risk in ordering a mattress online. We want you to be confident in your purchase and love bedtime. Need help, or have a question about how we design and make our mattresses? Cost no guarantee of comfort when it comes to mattresses A good bed is essential for a great night’s sleep, so nobody wants to scrimp when it comes to buying a mattress. But the truth is there is little relationship between mattress price and quality. In fact consumer group CHOICE says the misconception that cost equates to comfort is the No.1 mattress myth. At Sleep Republic, we’ve been making premium mattresses for over 20 years, so we know what makes a mattress great. See our list of the 5 key components of a good mattress below. It’s no surprise so many people think spending more will help them to sleep better, because traditional mattress manufacturers and retailers have worked hard to promote this idea. Indeed, CHOICE found they deliberately confuse consumers in many ways, such as making minor changes to products and then giving them very different names and prices. 5 key components of a good mattress So, if price is no guide, then how do you choose the best mattress for you? At a minimum, a quality mattress should include 5 key components: 1. Pocket springs Pocket spring mattresses are far superior to foam core and other spring types. This is because each spring (of which there should be over 1000 in a high-quality mattress) is free to move individually, so your bed can respond to you without disturbing your sleeping partner. And pocket springs can be configured to provide optimal support for different zones of your body, such as your head, shoulders, hips, legs, and feet. 2. Memory foam Memory foam is an amazing NASA-developed product that relieves pressure in muscles and joints by contouring to your body and providing a soft, snuggly surface. However, plain memory foam can retain too much warmth and lead to overheating, so look for quality gel-infused memory foam that wicks excess heat away to provide temperature stability. 3. Natural latex A layer of natural latex adds outstanding support and recovery capabilities to any mattress. And because it contains thousands of tiny ventilation holes it also provides added air flow, reducing moisture build-up within the bed. 4. Edge support Cheaper mattresses tend to sag at the edges, forcing sleepers to hug the middle of the bed to avoid the feeling that a sleeper might ‘roll off’. Always look for a mattress with added support around the edges. 5. Quality guarantee Any reputable mattress dealer will stand by their products with an extended no-questions-asked comfort guarantee, and at least a 10-year warranty. If they don’t, you have to ask the question — why? What’s too cheap, and what’s too expensive? Mattresses start at under $100 and can easily range up to over $20,000. So, how much should you expect to pay for a quality mattress? Very cheap mattresses generally contain coil springs and/or polyethylene foam, materials which don’t provide a great night’s sleep. They are not supportive and tend to sag or, on the flip side, they can be far too firm — and poly foam causes overheating. These products are also not durable, so cheap mattresses don’t last long. High-quality materials cost more than those used in bottom-of-the-range beds, and, as a result, you’re unlikely to find a premium queen mattress with pocket springs and the other 5 key mattress components for under $1000. But, the good news is you shouldn’t have to pay much more than that. Cut through all the hype, avoid the traditional bricks-and-mortar mattress stores with high overheads, and you’ll find you can have a top-quality queen mattress delivered to your door for well under $1500. The Sleep Republic mattress At the Sleep Republic, we don’t waste your time or ours with confusing product ranges and price promotions. We produce one superb mattress that we believe is the best it can possibly be. We’ve been in the mattress business for over 20 years, and our mattress is the culmination of our decades of experience in designing, manufacturing and selling over 100,000 mattresses across Australia. Designed by us in Melbourne using the best technologies available, ours is a hybrid memory foam mattress. This means it combines several different quality materials to create the ultimate sleep experience: A top layer of knitted cashmere — a natural fabric that is soft to the touch yet extremely durable Gel-infused memory foam for body contouring and temperature stability Natural latex foam for support, recovery, and airflow High-definition pocket springs (2,250 in our king size mattress) Dynamic edge support to prevent roll-off 3D spacer fabric side panels to let air circulate throughout the bed The result is a medium-firm mattress that provides the ultimate in both comfort, and support. Not too soft, not too hard — the best of both worlds. As a result, over 20 per cent of our customers are either repeat, or are referred to us by existing customers, and we have hundreds of independently verified positive customer reviews. We’re so confident in our mattress that it comes with both a 12-year warranty and a 100-night comfort guarantee. If you buy a Sleep Republic mattress and you aren’t completely satisfied within 150 nights, we’ll simply pick it up free of charge from anywhere in Australia, and you’ll get a full refund. No questions asked, no worries. Need help, or have a question about how we design and make our mattresses? Call us on 1800 753 371, chat with us online, or see our FAQs.

Get a better night’s sleep and reduce your back pain We spend almost half our lives in bed. But insomnia may not be the only thing preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep. Back problems are both painful and hard to navigate when it comes to lying down at night. Thankfully, there are some easy ways you can reduce your back pain so you can catch some z’s. What caused it? Have you worked out why you get back pain? You may have pulled a muscle or strained a ligament, in which case all you can do is rest. But if you’ve ruptured or slipped a disc in your back, suffer from arthritis or osteoporosis, or your back pain is severe and debilitating, you should see your doctor. Sleeping positions According to American website Healthline, research has shown that people with sleeping problems are more likely to develop chronic musculoskeletal pain. And where do many sleeping problems stem from? The way you lie in bed. Lying on your side If you lie on your side, you should support your hips by placing a pillow between your bent knees. If your bed is soft, or saggy, place a pillow beneath your waist. Lying on your back Sleeping on your back is all about retaining the natural shape of your spine. You can promote this by lying flat on your back as you are falling off to sleep, and returning to this position if you wake up during the night. It’s also a good idea to spread your legs and arms to distribute weight and pressure around your mattress. Lying on your front Lying on your front can create the most problems. If this is your favourite way to sleep, there a few things you can do to reduce the risk of hurting your back. Don’t bend or twist your neck too far forwards, backwards or to the side. Place a pillow under your chest and make sure you sleep on a supportive mattress. Choose the right bed You’ve got to start with the right equipment. Nothing else will matter if you’re not sleeping on the right mattress, and using the best kind of bedding and pillows. We’ve spent years researching what makes a mattress both comfortable and supportive, which lead us to The Mattress. It features HD Pocket Springs for optimal support, and gel infused memory foam plus a latex pillow top for the ultimate comfort. It’s not too soft, and not too hard. Best of all? If you don’t like it, you can return it with our 150 nights guarantee. Pair it with The Pillow and the right kind of sheets, and you’ll have the best night’s sleep. Sleeping ‘aids’ Sometimes, back pain can be the result of lots of tossing and turning throughout the night. If you struggle to get to sleep, or stay asleep, you should look at investing in products and activities. Melatonin You can pick up homeopathic melatonin tablets but these are often diluted. If you want the stronger stuff, head to your doctor and chat to them about the benefits of taking a melatonin supplement. Melatonin is a natural product, one that we all produce throughout the day. It’s a vital hormone which helps regulate circadian rhythms (sleep cycles). Valerian Valerian is a flower. It features in many herbal teas aimed at helping you sleep and companies like Blackmores and Swisse sell valerian tablets. It’s the most effective after you’ve taken it for a couple of weeks, and it may interact with other drugs so talk to your doctor if you’d like to try it out. Visit a professional While it may be tempting to treat your pain yourself, there are a range of services which specialise in treating back pain. You should book yourself an appointment with: Acupuncture: A licensed accupuncturist will use needles to stimulate different systems in your body. It’s very effective for things like muscle inflammation. Osteopathy: Osteopaths manipulate your body and stretch your muscles. They reposition your limbs and use massage to relieve muscle tension. Physiotherapy: A physiotherapist will treat your body using exercise, massage, and manipulation. Chiropractor: A chiropractor uses hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatment to align your body. Avoid alcohol Many people mistakenly believe a nice ‘nightcap’ at the end of the day will help them nod off to sleep. Studies show that the opposite is true. Alcohol may help you initially fall asleep quickly, but it reduces the REM (Rapid Eye Movement). REM is a vital part of your sleep cycle. It’s the part of sleep where you brain forms neural pathways and cements information you’ve learned throughout the day. When you sleep after a heavy night of drinking, you are more likely to sleep in a way which will cause back pain. Consider going sober for a month, and see if it makes a difference to your quality of life. You’d be surprised how good you may feel. Stretch your muscles Back pain can stem from a lack of muscle strength. Activities like pilates and yoga have been known to help those suffering from mild and acute back pain – plus, they’re great for your mind, too! Exercise triggers an increase in your core body temperature, and the post-exercise drop in temperature can make you sleepy. Studies have also shown that exercise also helps to regulate your circadian rhythm. Everyone’s sleep cycle is different, so to work out what time to exercise you can experiment. Try exercising in the morning, afternoon and evening to see which works best for you. Now you have the information, you can say goodbye to back pain and hello to a better night’s sleep. Start the process by setting yourself up with The Mattress today.
